Macroom

The challenge on this sloping site was that the best views were to the north and sunshine and light, from the opposite direction. It was important to capitalise on both. The main mass of the dwelling is designed to run with the contours of the land. We choose to site the house on a relatively level area of this sloping site, minimising the cut and fill. As with traditional Irish farmhouses this dwelling is principally one room deep, but with extensive glazing to the south. Much of the south side of the dwelling has a void/double height space, enabling the sun to penetrate deep into the heart of this dwelling.
